About seven years ago I received a telescope as a gift for twenty five years of service from my employer. It sat in the box for quite some time but one night I set it up but really had no clue as to how to use it. Being a gearhead, I don’t find instructions that useful. With some experimenting I was able to see Saturn and its rings. It is one thing to see a picture of Saturn but even more amazing to see Saturn through a telescope with your own eye. Today NASA published the picture below that was taken by the Cassini spacecraft from 900,000,000 miles away from earth.

The blue dot in the lower right is a picture of Earth with the rings of Saturn at the top. If you look closely you can see me smiling and waving hello.
Waving hello back… 🙂
