By the time you read about my second hour of the 1 Day 1 World Project (1:00 pm to 2:00 pm), I will be busy training for a new assignment and disconnected. My new assignment will be with another National Laboratory and will last at least one year. It will take me back to a time when cell phones, iPods, tablets and eReaders did not exist. These devices are not allowed into the area I will be working. Until the last year or so, all of these devices were banned from my present work area. The “technology” we use everyday is very insecure. You may not be aware that your cell phone can be turned on remotely and your conversation heard by someone you don’t know is listening. The only way to have a truly private conversation in this age of personal electronics is to leave it home and take a walk or take out the battery.
Enjoy your disconnected time. (Although it’s not a choice, it may be a good thing to just be gadget free for 8 hours a day!)

This evening on my walk with Maggie, 5 of 7 people we passed were “pluged in” on a beautiful trail. Look Up!
