To start the New Year, Lisa and I were invited to join a group of friends for a hike through the Round Valley Regional Preserve which is part of the East Bay Regional Parks.

We hiked a total of 4.75 miles with the first two miles gaining around 600 feet in elevation. Of course this elevation gain was an up then down then up again making the total more than 600 feet. The cattle also used the trail which in places made it very challenging. But the beauty of the Round Valley Regional Preserve was definitely worth the pain.

Mount Diablo can be seen off in the distance from the highest point along the trail. After the hike we went to Pat and Lisa’s house (yes, two couples with the same first names) for lunch and catching up with friends. One of the best parts was seeing six teenagers enjoying a hike with their parents.
