The Big Dig – Day 2

Bright and early this machine showed up to help with the Big Dig at the Red Dog Estate. I have decided to call it the Beast. My friend Keith arrived shortly after and we started digging. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the men and women who make their living operating these machines. There are at least 14 different ways you can destroy something with the wrong movement of your hand. Pandora’s Box has opened and I have more to do than Plan A called for. Thankfully nothing I can’t fix. We did discover that the sewer line runs under the Pepper tree. That required a call to the city and Plan B was made.

By the end of day two, Keith and I worked our way up to Plan D. The sewer line survived the day. The sidewalk end is clear and ready to be cut.

After I finish this post, I’m on a break at the moment, I will clear the end where I have an ABS pipe already in place.

Tomorrow morning the two ends will be cut and then the old pipe removed. Hopefully laying the new pipe will go quickly and the Beast can be sent back to its lair on Monday.

P.S. – I have no doubt that there are typos or grammar problems…it’s been a long day working in tight quarters with a dangerous machine.

  1. Ohhh…. this is a thriller, and by the sounds of already being up to plan D… not the kind you expected! Some serious twists and turns. Your composure is admirable, Patrick. Good you listened to your body and stopped when you did.

      1. That is true. The truck driver who delivered The Beast mentioned that too. But it worked out well and my friend Keith was a huge help. It would have been far more difficult by myself.
